Helping clients with detailed in-house SEO training

The Challenge:

After their website indexing was trashed through spammy and unexplained back-linking, leading office furniture supplier, Whiteley’s, desperately needed to improve their online SEO. Having engaged a digital marketing agency to turnaround their back-linking problem, they came to me to boost their own understanding of on-page SEO. I put together a programme of SEO training to help them learn ways to improve their website content and to have the confidence to fully interrogate the activities of the agency they had engaged.

The Solution:

Over a few months, I visited their offices two half-days a month to deliver in-house training to staff members tasked with creating and editing website content. Time was spent presenting to them what they needed to know about SEO and leading them through hands-on practical sessions. Tackling the subject in bite-size pieces, they furthered their understanding of various SEO elements, learnt how to research effective keywords and how to effectively use their Content Management System (CMS).

“Taking a gradual approach to improving our SEO has allowed us to embed our new-found knowledge into our daily work. We now have a stronger understanding of how to research keywords, create content our customers want to read and have a stronger understanding of the work carried out by our digital marketing agency.”
Steve Newins, Director, Whiteley’s Office Supplies.

The Results:

Whiteley’s staff now feel confident to create their own keyword-rich, optimised content for the company website. They are working more closely with their digital marketing agency and building a robust Content Strategy for their website.
